Achieving Homestar Points with Knauf Insulation

Specifying Knauf Insulation Earthwool® glasswool products allows additional points to be claimed through the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC) Homestar EN3 – Sustainable Materials credits.

Introduced to encourage the specification and use of materials that contribute to the overall sustainable performance of building projects over their lifetime, points may be awarded for material categories where at least 50% of the total material content is compliant, based on the unit of measurement for that category. This may include reuse, recycled content, eco-label and/or responsible sourcing, with insulation featuring as material category.

All Knauf Insulation Earthwool® glasswool products in New Zealand are GreenTag™ Level A certified, a recognised certification under the Homestar New Zealand Technical Manual. This certification makes it simple for specifiers to claim 1.5 points under the EN3 credit.

Our Earthwool® glasswool is the first and only glasswool insulation in New Zealand to achieve GreenRate™ Level A certification. Greentag™ is a third-party, green building product rating and certification system and is widely considered a market leader for green product certification. Internationally recognised, all products must undergo rigorous assessment and meet evidence-based criteria in order to achieve certification.

Knauf Insulation have also published product specific Environmental Product Declarations for a range of Earthwool® glasswool products, providing an independent, verified document that highlights the environmental impact of our products.

Specifying Knauf Insulation Earthwool® glasswool can also help contribute to reducing the environmental impact of the overall building and demonstrate a commitment to using high thermal performing solutions.
