Our sustainability strategy

For A Better World commits us to Put People First, Achieve Zero Carbon, Deliver A Circular Economy and Create Better Buildings.

At Knauf Insulation we have always been defined by sustainability. We work hard to create products and practises that reduce our environmental impact. In fact, a recent study showed our mineral wool insulation reduces operational carbon from buildings by 3.6 million tonnes every year - the equivalent of removing 2.5 million cars from our roads. But for us, sustainability is not a destination – it is a journey of continuous improvement. Everyone from the shop floor to the board room is accountable for our success, which we track every year against four long-term goals:

Put People First

Ensure our teams, colleagues, partners and communities are kept safe and given opportunity to grow.

We commit to:	Our 2025 mid-term targets:
Zero harm and building a culture of health, safety and wellbeing.	Reduced TRIR to a maximum of 5 (fast-tracked to completion in 2023). Mental health, wellbeing and resilience training for managers, newcomers and recently promoted colleagues. Employee Assistance Programmes available to all colleagues.
Having the most engaged employees and committed and focused leaders in our industry.	Above average results from employer engagement surveys. Global Leadership and Change Programmes for all leaders.
Building on the diversity that has made the company such a success.	Diversity and inclusion training for all leaders, managers, newcomers and recently promoted colleagues.
Being a positive force in the communities where we work.	A global community of volunteers, participating in social and environmental projects.

Achieve Zero Carbon

Reduce the environmental impact of our products, plants, locations and offices, across the globe.

We commit to:

Delivering net zero embodied carbon solutions.

Embodied carbon of our products reduced by 15% (compared to 2019).

Sustainability fund of 10% of general capital expenditure for projects that reduce carbon emissions or cut waste to landfill.

Roadmaps to new carbon-friendly technologies for manufacturing.

Reducing the environmental footprint of the entire organisation beyond embodied carbon.

Environmental footprint reduced by at least 25%.

Deliver a Circular Economy

Do more with less by reducing, reusing and recycling. And help our customers to do the same.

We commit to:	Our 2025 mid-term targets:
Finding ways to use resources that have a minimal environmental impact.	Increase recycled content in our batch. Reduced SOx emissions from plants by 50% (compared to 2019). Significant reductions towards cutting NOx emissions. New projects to reduce the fresh water used in five plants.
Sending zero waste to landfill.	Zero production waste sent to landfill, from rock, glass and wood wool plants. 25% of site waste ‘taken back’, through briquetting or recycling. Programmes to recycle insulation from demolition sites in at least five countries.
Reducing the environmental impact of our packaging.	Virgin plastic film packaging reduced by over 25%. 25 – 50% of plastic film recycled and 35% of wooden pallets reused or recycled.

Create Better Buildings

Use our buildings to lay the foundations for a brighter, better, more sustainable future.

Eco-design tool fully integrated into our Innovation Programme.

Continuing to campaign for safer, more efficient and more sustainable buildings that are fit for the future.

Real performance placed at the centre of new standards, in collaboration with Knauf Energy Solutions.

All new or renovated Knauf Insulation buildings meet our demanding sustainability specifications.

By 2025, we have identified our short-term goals that we can achieve. We are working with our current management and colleagues to achieve these four goals. We cannot pass the problem to the next generation. Follow our developments and goals.
