Renovating HSBC Dalhousie – A Blend of Warmth and Elegance

Situated in the bustling Dalhousie area of Kolkata, the HSBC Dalhousie branch operates within a historic building that reflects the rich heritage of its surroundings. Its renovation required a sensitive approach to align with the character of the structure and the design intent of creating a warm, inviting space.

The Need for Transformation

The existing mineral fiber ceiling tiles, while functional, no longer aligned with the desired aesthetic. The architect sought a solution that would elevate the space, introducing the warmth and sophistication of wood. This shift in material came with its own set of challenges. The wooden tiles, specified as WoodWorks Ceiling Microlook (RD6006) in Siam Wood shade, were substantially heavier than the previous material. Additionally, the ceiling height, towering over 30 feet, added complexity to the installation process.

Seizing the Opportunities

To bring the design intent to life, we implemented innovative strategies to address the site’s unique requirements. The specified ceiling tiles of Woodworks Microlook (RD6006) in Siam Wood shade, were paired with a robust Silhouette 38 mm B/R Grid to ensure seamless integration and stability.

The ceiling height, exceeding 30 feet, created an opportunity to showcase advanced installation techniques. Movable scaffolding with dual slabs and pre-assembled ladders was employed to ensure precise and safe installation. Additionally, the substantial weight of the wooden tiles underscored the importance of meticulous handling and efficient execution, enabling us to maintain the highest quality standards throughout the process.
