The history of the Knauf Group began in 1932 when two young mining engineers, Alfons and Karl Knauf, founded Gebrüder Knauf, a small gypsum extraction and processing company. The family business quickly started manufacturing the first plaster-based building materials. In 1958, the company ventured into the industrial production of plasterboards and became known for its innovative new products and processes, offering the construction sector solutions that were simple to apply, high-performing, and economical. It even expanded beyond its original business, successfully innovating in the packaging and insulation sectors.
Since then, the Knauf Group has built a worldwide reputation for excellence. Its exceptional industrial success is reinforced by the human and social principles of a company that has always drawn strength from its family values. Knauf ensures its name remains synonymous with exemplary quality and meticulous service.
Knauf is one of the leading manufacturers of building materials and systems in Europe and well beyond. Today, Knauf has production facilities and sales organizations on five continents, operating in over 90 countries and at more than 250 production sites.
In 2019, the Knauf Group worldwide comprised some 35,000 employees and generated a turnover of over 10 billion euros.
Following the construction of five plaster manufacturing units for Algeria in 1974, the Knauf Group decided to take an additional step in 2006 by acquiring the Fleurus plaster factory, located in the municipality of Benfréha, Oran province, near the Sidi Boutbal gypsum deposit.
To meet the needs of Algeria's rapidly developing construction market, the company launched the first Algerian plasterboard production plant in 2009, followed by a metal profiles production unit in 2011.
Today, Knauf is one of the leading manufacturers of building materials and systems in Algeria.
