Surface Quality: An Essential Criterion

In drywall construction, the quality of the finish is crucial to ensuring a flawless result. Surface finishes are a key indicator of execution quality. To guarantee an uncompromising finish, it's vital that quality expectations are clearly defined from the outset, as the precision of the workmanship and the choice of materials are essential for the success of every project.

Quality Levels: Established Standards

Knauf defines four distinct levels of surface finishes to meet specific project requirements:

  • Q1: Technically Necessary Surface. This is the basic level, sufficient for areas where the surface will be covered (e.g., tiling).
  • Q2: Standard Surface. This level is suitable for most common finishes like wallpaper or textured paint.
  • Q3: Superior Surface. Ideal for smooth, high-quality finishes such as matte paints or fine wallpapers.
  • Q4: Perfect Surface. This is the highest level, required for highly demanding finishes like gloss paints, special decorative techniques, or areas with critical lighting.

These levels precisely determine the steps needed to achieve the desired finish, ensuring the final result meets expectations.

Jointing and Finishing Materials: A Comprehensive Range

Knauf offers a wide array of jointing and finishing materials, suitable for every stage of the construction process:

  • Jointing Materials: These are designed for filling joints, often used with paper jointing tape for enhanced strength and stability.
  • Finishing Materials: Used for the complete surface finishing, ensuring a smooth base that's ready for various types of paints and decorations.

Jointing Compounds

  • Jointfiller 24H: A slow-drying, powder-based jointing compound made from calcium carbonate.
  • Fillerpro 24H Premium: A premium, powder-based jointing compound also made from calcium carbonate, guaranteeing high whiteness, a superior finish, and excellent adhesion.
  • Fugenfüller: A quick-setting jointing compound used for creating joints between BA (tapered edge) or HRAK (semi-rounded tapered edge) plasterboards.

Finishing Compounds

  • Top Finish: A skim coat finishing compound designed for various substrates, including cement, highly absorbent smooth concrete, plasterboard, and raw plaster. It can be applied manually (with a spatula, trowel, or float) or by machine (PFT RITMO POWERCOAT).
