ECOLOGICAL BUILDING MATERIALS FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
As a major player in the manufacturing of insulating and energy-efficient plaster-based construction materials, Knauf has always been committed to sustainable development with future generations in mind.
From this perspective, we've embedded sustainability into our 2032 strategy, both at the Group level and in Algeria, with the following priorities:
First, to reduce our carbon footprint with an ambitious goal of -50% CO2 emissions for scopes 1 and 2 by 2032 compared to 2021, and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045. We're making this goal a reality by optimizing our production processes and integrating green energy. To that end, we plan to install a photovoltaic solar panel capacity by 2027 to use more green energy in our Oran factory.
Knauf also aims to contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of the construction and building sector in Algeria, which accounts for over 38% of CO2 emissions. This contribution involves specifying and supplying insulating and lightweight construction solutions and systems.
We're working to preserve the primary natural resources we use in our manufacturing process—namely gypsum and water—by taking concrete steps to ensure these resources are managed responsibly while reducing water consumption year after year.
We strive to rehabilitate our quarries as they're exploited, particularly through reforestation and planting, to return the land to its natural environment and sustain biodiversity.
Finally, our top priority is always to recycle 100% of our waste by implementing robust waste management and recycling processes and adopting a circular economy approach.
