Mineral wool insulation with ECOSE® Difference

We believe insulation should be kinder to those who use it the most.

ECOSE® is Knauf Insulation’s plant-based binder. It is low-carbon and contains low-VOCs, so it can be used to create better buildings – for occupiers, for installers and for the planet.

ECOSE® provides the proven sustainability performance the industry needs, backed up by extensive testing and certification.

ECOSE® is just one small element of our product proposition, but it makes a big difference.

Proven Performance ECOSE

Trust the ECOSE® Difference

ECOSE® has been making a difference for 15 years.

ECOSE® was first launched in 2009. For 15 years now, the ECOSE® difference has helped to create better buildings – better for occupiers, better for installers and better for the planet.

Its positive impact has been extensively tested and certified.

Knauf Insulation publishes detailed Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for all of its products made with ECOSE®. These EPDs are produced to the latest EN15804+A2 standard, and feature extensive, transparent reporting of their environmental impact across a wide range of categories. Products made with ECOSE® have been assessed and certified as Eurofins Indoor Air Comfort Gold for low VOC emissions – the highest standard. They have also been awarded a DECLARE ‘Red List Free’ label, which certifies that they are free from any of the chemicals known to pose serious risks to human health on the internationally-agreed ‘Red List’.

Indoor air quality

Breathe the ECOSE® difference

Products made with ECOSE® are low-VOC.

They were the first to be awarded the Eurofins Indoor Air Comfort Gold certification, the highest possible standard. This means they are independently tested and verified to meet or exceed a wide range of national mandatory and voluntary product emissions standards.

They feature no added formaldehyde or other harmful chemicals. Products made with ECOSE® are certified to be free from any of the chemicals known to pose serious risks to human health on the internationally-agreed DECLARE ‘Red List’ – both glass and rock mineral wool. These products were the first to achieve the DECLARE ‘Red List Free’ label.

This means they earn credits under green building rating schemes. ECOSE® can help building designers earn additional points under green building rating schemes. Many of these schemes award points specifically for the indoor air quality of a building. For example, the BREEAM scheme awards credits for buildings that feature low levels of formaldehyde and total VOCs post-occupation.

Better Buildings ECOSE
Make the ECOSE® difference

ECOSE® is a low-carbon binder.

ECOSE® is predominantly plant-based (up to 98%), made from rapidly renewable sources. Because it is manufactured using biogenic sources of carbon, it has a lower carbon footprint than traditional binders.

ECOSE® contributes to our lower-carbon insulation products.

By reducing the embodied carbon of our binder, ECOSE® contributes to the overall sustainability of our products. It significantly reduces embodied carbon at the raw materials stage.
